Discworld Noir (PC CD)

I do adore Terry Pratchett's Discworld, and even though it did not always translate to top quality games, this wondrous setting did help spawn one of my favourite adventure games of all time: Discworld Noir. Discworld Noir was an innovative, brilliantly written and designed, often hilarious, very clever, lovely to look at, masterfully scored and wonderfully voiced first person, puzzle-solving affair that you will have to run on a Windows 95, 98 or XP machine to properly enjoy.

The NES Smurfs

Released exclusively in France where the Smurfs are very sensibly known as the Schtroumpfs (which is exactly what I grew up calling the blue little things myself), this very rare, very boxed Schtroumpfs NES pack has appeared on eBay for you to bid on. Ant Attack (Quicksilva)

Sandy White's Ant Attack for the ZX Spectrum was a glorious, technically groundbreaking, evocative, and excellently designed game that pioneered 3D graphics on the machine. Amstrad CPC 464 Plus

The Plus range was a very interesting idea both on paper and in the flesh, but Amstrad's turbo-boosted 8-bit systems --despite the cartridge ports, 4096 colors palettes, sprite handling chips, and all sorts of other extras-- could never compete with the reigning Amigas and STs. The rare and lovely SAM Coupé

Released in 1989 SAM Coupé was the last 8-bit micro to really attempt to enter British homes, but despite its cool features and ZX Spectrum compatibility it was simply too late. The computer came with impressive specs including a standard 3.5" disk drive, a 6MHz processor, 256K of (expandable) RAM, stereo sound, a palette of 128 colours, and a ton of expansion options. It flopped and is now quite the collectible rarity.

Boxed NES Action Set

The Nintendo Entertainment System never came close to dominating Europe's gaming market, but despite them 8-bit home micros and the Master System it did manage to provide the continent with some excellent Nintendo gaming, and gather a modest but sizable following. Of course, the console remained more or less the same excellent NES the rest of the world came to know and play with, and despite missing a few games it did secure some rare exclusives.
