Rare NEC PC Engine LT sighted

The PC Engine LT is essentially the Laptop version of NEC's PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16 console, that's only marginally smaller than its non-portable siblings. The console was released in 1992, sported a still impressive 4" LCD screen, a TV tuner that worked only in Japan and was connectible both to the PC Engine CD and other external sources (think DVD players and game consoles). Without doubt the top console of the PC Engine line and one that sort of flopped due to its extreme price.

Today the LT is even more expensive, rarer and thus immensely collectible, occasionally going for more than a couple thousand dollars. Obviously it still is an excellent video gaming console that's fully compatible with the PC Engine and can provide hours of Bonk, Alien Crush and shmup fun. Find out more here and here.

To own your own (heh), try your luck at a certain boxed NEC PC Engine LT eBay auction. Seller ships worldwide.

Jet Set Willy C64 (tape)

According to the wise readers of the prestigious Retro Gamer magazine Jet Set Willy is one of the best platform games ever made. Yes, and it got voted despite being absolutely painfully hard. It's an eBay auction and the seller is willing to ship to Europe, America, Japan and Australia.

Atari 2600 with 40 games

The wildly successful Atari 2600, released 1977 and credited with popularizing the use of microprocessor based hardware and cartridges containing game code. The Atari 2600 was officially retired by Atari on January 1, 1992, making it the longest-lived home video game console in US game history. It had a lifespan of 14 years and 2 months, nearly three times the typical running span of a console.

SEGA Game Gear, 8 games, TV Tuner & Master Gear

Ahhh... the SEGA Game Gear. Another casualty to the Game Boy and another colour handheld console that drained batteries fast enough to make sure no kid ever played it outside his/her room. Still, it was quite a console (a beefed-up Master System with 4096 colours in the palm of your hand), had a ton of software released for it and even some utterly weird add-ons. Reading this excellent GG feature would definitely reveal more.

Now, to the online shopping/bidding bit. A Sega Game Gear with 8 games, TV Tuner and Game Master auction has been sighted over @ eBay and happily the seller is willing to ship worldwide. Oh, and if you must absolutely know the Game Master allows for Master System games to be played on the go, whereas the games you'll be getting include Sonic, Klax & Slider.

Before you bid, do know that your average Game Gear goes for 15£/30$/22€, each game for roughly 2£/4$/3€ and the TV Tuner for a bit over 10£/20$/15€.

SEGA Dreamcast & accessories bargain

Ok, this is UK only, but it's shaping up to be a pretty amazing bargain, especially considering you'll rarely see a Sega Dreamcast console sell for less than 20£. Consequently, a starting bid of 5£ means this Dreamcast accesories & games eBay auction is definitely worth a look. The lot includes a console, 2 controllers, a VMU, a light-gun and 5 games, among which Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi 2 and House of the Dead 2 are worth selling your soul to Cthulhu for.

AMDRUM: the 8-bit CPC Drum Machine

The home-computing peripherals that hit the shelves back in the 8-bit era were quite a spectacle. From Spectrum interfaces, to mini-printers, TV screen grabbers, extra drives, joysticks, tv tuners and microdisks, the sky was the limit. Still, the Amdrum by UK based Cheetah for the Amstrad CPC range was and still is special. Actually, quite a bit on the rare side of things too.

The Amdrum is compatible with the CPC 6128, 664 and 464 (though not with any of the currently available emulators) and offers a fully functioning drum machine with 8 different drum sounds. Saving songs on tape/disc, loading of extra sounds and hi-fi connection are also supported. Find out more here.

For a fully functional boxed Amdrum complete with software and neccessary cables, try this Amdrum Digital Drum System eBay auction. Seller ships to Europe, US, Australia and Canada.

Retro Gaming & Collecting: Beyond eBay

Assuming you accept the fact this very blog is bringing you the best in retro gaming eBay auctions, while also searching for hidden retro bargains/stashes everywhere and taking into consideration you're all a rowdy retro-headed lot that would like to see 10 updates per day, well, the following list is for you.

Disclaimer: We know the logic behind the previous sentence is lacking, but (?) this selection of retro outlets will be constantly updated.

Amigakit.com offers UK, US, Canadian and European stores for everyone interested in Commodore's classic Amiga computers. Expect anything from brand new Amiga 1200 hardware, to hard disks, add-ons and a modest selection of software.

NeoStore, a part of Neo-Geo.com, might not be able to provide you with those lovely Neo Geo consoles, but if you're looking for SNK accessories and games, then this is your place.

Play-Asia.com is carrying a selection of classic games & consoles. The Dreamcast, Saturn, N64 and PSOne seem to be heavily supported too, as are new software releases for retro consoles.

The Recycle Video Games Network is a network of brick and mortar stores, with US & Canadian web shops, with a decent collection of retro and contemporary games & DVDs.

RetroGames.co.uk offers the standard Sega, Atari and Nintendo retro collection, but also -and that's the important part- an amazing selection for us 8-bit home computing lovers. The ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 sections are truly awesome, though other formats aren't neglected either.

Retro Scene, another online store filled with absolutely anything they could ..uh.. fill it with, is also the place for grabbing them elusive PC, 3DO, Atari, CD32, Amiga, PC Engine and C64 games.

The online shop of Retro-Trader has a huge range of retro collectibles, magazines, books, handhelds, computers, consoles and games. Highlights include Amstrad CPC hardware, Pong consoles, CD-i games and some rather impressive arcade machines.

Atari 5200 4-port System with 11 Games

Introduced in 1982 by Atari as a replacement for the Atari 2600. The 5200 was created to compete with the Mattel Intellivision, but wound up directly competing with the Colecovision shortly after its release. Despite this competition and a stuttering economy, the Atari 5200 developed a strong cult following with its library of high-quality games.
