20 ZX Spectrum Games

The time has come for this very blog to take its (well deserved, if I may say so myself) 10 days off and visit a lovely island in the Aegean. As for you dear retro-loving readers, this Spectrum games auction might be of interested, though admittedly it's a UK thing only. Still, the 20 games on offer include such brilliant little gems as the text adventure Terrormolinos, Bruce Lee and Match Day.

Atari 5200 Trak-Ball Controller

Atari 5200 Trak-Ball ControllerThe Atari 5200 was built to be the Neo Geo AES of its time but sadly failed. Happily though, you can still grab its pretty rare and quite amazing Trak-Ball Controller, use it as a properly spelled track-ball and have some arcade quality time with games such as Millipede. Here's the Atari Trak-Ball auction link. Seller ships worldwide.

Wonderland (MS-DOS)

The Wondermega

Sega Victor Wondermega

If rare Sega consoles are your prime fetish, then the Wondermega posted here must have you itching to click on this lovely Wondermega eBay auction link. Seller ships worldwide, the console seems to be in great shape and even comes with three games (Sonic CD, Night Trap and Gunstar Heroes). Oh, and in case someone hadn't heard before, the Victor produced Wondermega is a Mega CD and a MegaDrive combined into one -admittedly classy- console.

Grandstand's TRON

Grandstand TronTomy Tron

What you see above might not come in a mint condition box or feature its tiny manual, but is an almost complete, quite rare, very retro and definitely brilliant TRON mini-arcade. The console itself is in mint condition. Seller ships only within the UK. Grandstand TRON eBay auction.

WastelandApple II Wasteland boxIf you are looking for a fantastic CRPG, that's worth collecting, keeping, loving and playing to death, look no further. Wasteland, the innovative and still unsurpassed post-apocalyptic RPG, that inspired Fallout and went on to become a legend, can be yours, provided you are lucky with your bidding over at this Wasteland auction @ eBay. Seller ships worldwide and is offering a sealed copy of the Apple II version of the game.

Sonic & Knuckles (Megadrive)

Sonic & KnucklesSonic & Knuckles was most probably the final proper Sonic game Sega released; at least until the forthcoming Sonic 4 hits consoles worldwide. It was released back in 1994 and was a direct and definitely worthy sequel to Sonic 3, that featured the rather smart lock-on technology. Happily, you can still grab a cartridge with the Japanese MD version of the game (it will only run on a Japanese MegaDrive) via Play Asia.

Entex Adventurevision & 3 games

Entex Adventurevision

The Entex Adventurevision is rare as it is a beautiful vintage gaming machine. Smaller and more compact than the Vectrex, the Adventurevision resembled a miniaturized arcade cabinet, that displayed its awesome but flickering graphics via a spinning mirror and 40 red LEDs. It managed a 150x40 resolution. The console used cartridges and only 50,000 of it were ever produced. As for the number of games released, well, it never reached double digits, though admittedly they were high quality productions.

Happily, you can now find out for yourselves by acquiring this impressive Entex Adventurevision via eBay.  It comes with 3 games (and 2 game boxes) including the horizontally scrolling Super Cobra and them intriguing Turtles. Seller ships only within the US I'm afraid.

Ultima Escape from Mt. Drash - The Tape

Ultima Escape from Mt. Drash Sierra tapeUltima Escape from Mt. Drash manual vic 20

I know that the Commodore Vic 20 tape of Ultima Escape from Mt. Drash is ridiculously rare and that boxed copies of it are practically impossible to own, but a starting bid of 2500$ for a tape and a manual without a box do seem quite steep. I mean the tape isn't in such a hot condition anyway... Still, incredibly rich Sierra and Origin collectors should look no further than this very Ultima Escape from Mt. Drash link. It's on eBay, it is.

Oh, and for those wondering, no, Richard Garriott did not create this Ultima title. Actually, he wasn't even aware of its existence for quite a few years since the game was published. Interesting, eh? Well, you can find more about this most obscure of games here, here, here and here.

Mother 1+2 GBA

Might be a Japanese version that -not surprisingly- is actually in Japanese, but that doesn't render the excellent Mother 1 and 2 unplayable. Far from it. They're still great games to enjoy on your GBA. Grab 'em.

Red Baron (PC)

Red BaronRed Baron, the WWI flight-sim released by Dynamix and published by Sierra, is -easily- the best flight simulator I have ever played and one of the most immersive, interesting and fun games to ever hit MS-DOS PCs. It also happens to be a lavishly boxed game (you'll be using those maps and the hefty manual quite a bit, mind) you can own via this Red Baron PC offer. Oh, and don't forget to read this rather excellent Red Baron retro review either. Seller ships worldwide.

One Amiga 500 in a box

This dear friends is the best gaming computer ever created and you can grab it complete in its original box via this Amiga 500 auction. Not much I can add to it, besides the fact that the seller ships worldwide. Oh, and, yes, you can play Sensible Soccer on this thing too apparently...

Schneider (Amstrad) CPC 464

Schneider CPC 464Unlike the British version of the CPC, the Schneider CPC 464 does away with the coloured keys and actually manages to look both beautiful and quite a bit like the CPC 6128. The computer was intended for central Europe -mainly Germany- and you can try and get yourselves one (complete with green monitor) via this Schneider CPC 464 auction. Seller shockingly ships worldwide and offers truly fair shipping costs.

Dreamcast House of the Dead 2 Gunset

Sega Dreamcast House of the Dead 2One for the Dreamcast enthusiasts: a House of the Dead 2 Gunset has made it to eBay, and the seller is nice enough to ship worldwide. Yes, despite this being the beautiful Japanese version of the box set.

Manhole Game & Watch

Pocketsize Wide Screen Manhole Game & WatchAn excellent old Game & Watch handheld by Nintendo with its rather rare box, manual, foam tray and everything else that used to originally ship with it, can be seen at this Manhole auction. Apparently it can also be bought by everyone who can spare a couple hundred dollars (oh, dear) as the seller ships worldwide. And yes, this is the boxed Pocketsize version Manhole, which also makes it a part of the New Wide Screen series of games released by Nintendo in 1983.

Leather Goddesses of Phobos (C64)

Leather Goddesses of PhobosInfocom box

I could easily sit all day and post pictures of Infocom boxes, but, well, that would get tiring, wouldn't it? That's why I'll simply point you to this pretty excellent Leather Goddesses of Phobos eBay auction. The box is complete, even sporting that 3D comic and 3D glasses Infocom crammed inside, looks to be in great condition and the scratch 'n' sniff has neither been scratched or sniffed. This is the Commodore 64 version of the game and the seller ships worldwide.

The Amstrad Sega Mega PC

Amstrad Mega PCAmstrad Sega Mega PC

Haven't seen one of those Sega MegaDrive/PC hybrids by Amstrad for quite some time, so I guess they are getting rarer and -apparently- much more expensive, as this particular Amstrad Sega Mega PC comes with a Buy It Now price of £175.00. And you'll have to get to Chesterfield, UK to get it, but still. It's a lovely little failed oddity, isn't it?

The Mega PC is after all both a proper 386SX PC and a fully functioning Sega MegaDrive crammed into one desktop box and sharing a monitor. This particular one seems to be in great shape and comes with a few interesting extras, including a copy of Windows 3.1. Sadly no games are included.
