Nintendo Gameboy Light

One of the rarest versions of the GameBoy, also happens to be its very best. What am I talking about? Why the Game Boy Light of course. The 1998 back-lit Game Boy, that runs on two AA batteries and produces a stunningly crisp image. As it's highly collectible, you should be ready to spend around $200 when bidding on it via this Game Boy Light auction. The seller ships worldwide and is selling a complete, boxed console in great condition.

  1. Cool - I didn't even know that a backlit version existed. I've never been a big Game Boy guy but you're right that sure looks like the definitive one to own for the original line.

  2. A definitive version indeed, albeit a tad too expensive for my humble gnomic self. Still, I do suggest you give the Gameboy a, err, go. It's got some truly fantastic and innovative games.

  3. If I could only locate where online I saw that old Game Boy flash card for sale I might just get this thing even at its lofty price tag. Somehow it seems wrong to try and play them on a GBA.

  5. Is it a new retro purchase already? Shall I celebrate?

Mind you, my friend, I quite enjoy GB games on the backlit GBA too. And GBC games too.

  6. yeah GBA is the only platform I ever play GB or GBC games on. I'd like to play them on my original GB/GBC like god intended but the screens are just so dark. And those little clip-on lights are annoying.

On second thought I could probably finally get a Vectrex for what that GB Light is going for so... perhaps I should reconsider.

  7. Perhaps you should. regardless of how fond I am of the GB, the Vectrex, well, the Vectrex is something else entirely. It's a beautiful little arcade cabinet with a fantastic vector display.

I thus vote for the Vectrex.

    There.

    (casts Vectrex vote)

  8. sigh - a good nights sleep to clear the head and it's up over $170 now. Guess I'll just stick with my old LightBoy steampunk magnifier glass thingamabob after all...

  9. A wise decision. Besides, the Vectrex wont just buy itself.

  10. The GameBoy Light is one of my favourites of this gen of portable consoles, as small and as compact as the GB Pocket, but with a great backlight that can be switched on and off.
