The Acorn BBC Master, besides sporting a pretty cool name, was a lovely and rather powerful 8-bit micro, that was built as the successor to the popular BBC B micro, with which it was (mostly) compatible. The Master came with 128k RAM of RAM, a slightly faster processor and, well, you can discover everything there is to it by actually grabbing one.
This Acorn BBC Master auction should come in handy then. The computer comes in its original box and polys, is accompanied by a disk-drive and even has a selection of lovely games available for it. Among them you will find such classics as Elite, Frak Barbarian II, Repton Through Time, Qwak and Mr Wiz. Seller ships only to UK addresses, but asking for overseas shipments might actually work.
Quite sexy, I've always been curious about british computers. I had a chance to talk with an italian Acorn collector, and he loves those machines. Here you can see his collection:

He's got an amazing collection indeed. And that A3010 beast too. Fantastic stuff, just fantastic.
ReplyDeleteFrak was a platform game, where the titular caveman was armed with a yoyo to dispatch his enemies. Upon hitting them in the face with his deadly toy, he'd yell 'Frak' (he was a caveman with a limited vocabulary - cut him some slack) by way of a speech bubble. Of course, some cunning hackers broke the code of the game and changed two of the letters in the speech bubble, so that Frak said an altogether different word, and definitely not one that was permitted in school computer labs up & down the country.
ReplyDeleteHehe, I do remember that rumoured hack, though I've never really seen Frak being (predictably) naughty. A lovely game really, though one I've only played on an Electron.
ReplyDeleteThere is video evidence ;D
