If you are looking for something well and truly obscure look no further than this View Master Interactive Vision console (of sorts) that recently appeared on eBay. And it's the complete thing too, coming in its original box with all the required bits and the VHS tape/game Disney's Cartoon Arcade. Seller is only shipping within the United States.
As for the console itself, it is a properly odd thing that utilizes a VCR and offers a quasi-interactive, FMV-like experience mainly focused on kids; as an added bonus it looks utterly unique and not unlike a toy.

Essentially a CPC with a few extra chips, a cartridge slot, a SCART port and some preposterously priced games, Amstrad's GX4000 console was a proper disaster. A highly collectible disaster admittedly and an interesting, distinctly European 8-bit console, you could grab via this pretty amazing GX4000 auction on eBay.
You'll be getting two consoles (one working, one for spare parts), a new power supply, the manual, two controllers, the original box, a SCART cable and 12 games. The games include such rare pieces as No Exit, TinTin on the Moon and Plotting.

Let's start off with this lovely and modestly priced boxed copy of Zork: Grand Inquisitor (PC) that can be grabbed off of eBay. It is, after all, one of the funniest point-and-click adventures I have ever played. It's beyond demented and is one of those extremely rare FMV offerings that are really, really good. Also, it comes complete in a big box with all sorts of goodies and the seller is shipping worldwide.
Now, on to the promise.
Well, I've decided I should start working a bit more on Retro Treasures and try to actually improve it and expand its scope. This is not something that will happen overnight, mind you, but a goal the first step towards which shall be more frequent posts. Oh, and do please feel free to share any suggestions you might have...

Those tiny 16kb ZX Spectrum carts never really took off, despite being able to instantly, almost magically, load a game. Must have been their price and limited storage capabilities I believe, though, if it weren't for these, this Hungry Horace cartridge that appeared on eBay wouldn't be as collectible as it is. It's boxed. complete and only available for UK buyers, mind you.

With a price that has already surpassed $300 and more than 4 days left to it, we can be more than certain that this particular copy of Infocom's Starcross being auctioned off over at eBay is going to end up being very expensive indeed. Not that this is particularly shocking when you consider it's the rare and highly collectible flying saucer (1st) edition of the game for the Apple IIe/c/c+, but I thought I'd warn everyone.
The game is apparently in excellent condition and the seller is shipping worldwide.

MacMan and the Caber Eater, a simple educational game for the ZX Spectrum hell-bent on teaching 80s youngsters how to subtract, is quite the Speccy rarity and easily one of the most expensive bits of software a collector can nowadays buy. OK, the seller is a bit stingy on details (though also sells worldwide), but this Sega Saturn Dev Console looks very intriguing and, for the time, modestly priced. Besides, it does come with some extra switches and bits and would certainly make an interesting curio and most probably a lovely tool for homebrew development.
Monday, July 15, 2013

I have never played Spaceship Warlock, but I distinctly remember being absolutely blown away by those stunning magazine reviews and features. It was a multimedia extravaganza and apparently light-years ahead from anything else available at the time. At least when it came to graphics, sounds and system requirements, though confidential sources do claim that this sci-fi adventure wasn't a particularly great game.
Anyway. You can now grab a complete copy of Spaceship Warlock for your classic, colour, CD-enabled Mac via eBay. Seller ships to United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Estonia, Australia, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Slovenia, Japan, Sweden, Korea, South, Indonesia, Taiwan and South Africa.

Ed Fries has done the rather unthinkable and ported FPS mega-hit HALO to the Atari 2600. How do five games for the price of pay-what-you-want sound? What if two of said games are exclusive debuts and the other three are none other than brilliant retro-tastic indie RPG Phantasmaburbia, being-stood-up-sim Dinner Date and frantic puzzler Vampires!? Quite the bargain I should say and that is why you retro-loving RT readers should have a look at the Cerebral Bundle. It is after all something I've worked on pretty hard too ;)
Oh, and if you beat the average price, you'll also be getting sci-fi adventure J.U.L.I.A., the first episode of thriller Cognition (sporting the talents of the mighty Jane Jensen), odd indie hit I Get This Call Every Day and the just released Reversion: The Meeting.

Chiller is most probably the most brutal and definitely the sickest game to ever hit the Nintendo NES. Not surprisingly then, it was never licensed or approved by Nintendo and was only sold by American Game Cartridges, ending up quite the rarity. You can find more about it here, here and here. If you are actually interested in owning this lightgun gore-fest you can of course bid on this Chiller (NES) eBay auction for the NTSC version of the game. The game is new and sealed.
Seller ships to the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.
