Ultima Escape From Mt. Drash (VIC-20)

Ultima: Escape From Mt. Drash is one of the rarest games a collector can own and most probably the rarest thing you can buy for your Commodore VIC-20. Despite being a Sierra release and carrying the Ultima name, you see, it was never really properly marketed and was released incredibly late in the VIC-20's life. Besides, and as Richard Garriott did not create the game, Sierra only produced a few thousand copies of the game (estimated at around 3000) many of which seem to have been lost, making sure that the few copies that surface sell for quite a bot more than $1000.

As you may have already guessed another copy of Ultima: Escape From Mt. Drash has resurfaced on eBay and is already gathering the bidders' attention. Actually, it has even managed to attract Richard Garriott himself, who has finally made it clear that he did approve of the game's Ultima name. Anyway, back to the auction; it's a US only affair and you'll be getting the game on a tape and its manual. Mind you, just reading through the auction's text is worth your time. It's an amazingly detailed entry this one... 

Commodore 64 Game System & games

Ah, yes, a favourite failed console: the Commodore 64 Games System (a.k.a. C64gs). A full Commodore 64 in an ugly box without the keyboard. Gotta love it I suppose and possibly bid on this C64 GS auction too. The console is fully working and comes with a joystick, the manual and quite a few games, among which you'll be happy to find Klax, International Soccer and the brilliant and quite rare Shadow of the Beast. Wireless Remote Video Controllers

The evolution of the wireless controller was rather slow and painful as those two, otherwise lovely and most definitely boxed, Wireless Remote Video Controllers should easily demonstrate. They drain batteries fast and their range is quite limited, but, hey they are retro, lovely and compatible with everything from an Atari 2600 to Commodore 64. Seller ships worldwide.

Beat 'em & Eat 'em (Atari 2600)

Mystique, the notorious publisher of faux-porn for the Atari 2600, had quite a few gaming atrocities released under its Swedish Erotica label.  Beat 'em & Eat 'em is easily one of the worse yet more lavishly packaged offenders and thus a game lustfully sought after by collectors, who will be happy to bid on this CiB Beat 'em & Eat 'em cartridge. Seller ships worldwide. The Milton Bradley Simon Game

Invented by the so-called father of video games Ralph Baer and Howard Morrison (with a little software help by Lenny Cope) MB's Simon game was released in 1978. Impressively and despite its simplicity it turned out to be a huge success, survived well into the 80s and got itself countless re-imaginings and sequels. Weird, I know, especially considering Simon's gameplay consisted of replicating tunes played by the machine in a way that has plagued too many an adventure game.

Anyway. Simon was an interesting and successful digital novelty/game thingy that's definitely worth owning, if only for nostalgia reasons. This boxed Simon auction on eBay sounds particularly interesting too, as the seller ships worldwide and is giving away the complete boxed game.   

Fantastic ZX Spectrum Collection

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the 8-bit micro of the people, doesn't usually make itself available for retro collectors outside Europe. The fact then that the seller of this pretty fantastic ZX Spectrum collection ships worldwide should be reason enough for a Retro Treasures post. Impressively though there's much more to this auction than that. This particular 48k Speccy comes complete in an oh-so-tidy computer case and with all its expansions, namely Interface 1, Interface 2, the Microdrive and the Sinclair printer.

What's more, you'll also be getting an unused roll of printer paper (!), quite a few Microdrive cartridges, an interesting selection of related books and some pretty fantastic games. Among said games do expect to find Jetpac, Ant Attack, Galaxians and Hungry Horace.  

Frogger Mini Arcade

Back in 1982 when it was released, the Coleco / Sega take on Frogger must have been most impressive. Then again, it still is. It does after all resemble Nintendo's arcade-like Game & Watch series, sports a multi-color display, two difficulty settings and two game modes. Oh, yes, and it does indeed look like a lovely, miniature arcade cabinet too. To own it complete in its original box, you could try this Frogger Tabletop Arcade auction. Seller ships worldwide. It's quite the rarity, mind. 

Boxed Sega Master System

If you've been looking for a boxed, complete and fully working Mark I Sega Master System in excellent condition, well, this Sega Master System auction is definitely one for you. The console is almost new and in a complete and impressively preserved boxed, that includes everything from the manual and the lightgun to the two-games cartridge and some retro advertising material. Star Wars: Tie Fighter (PC)

We all loved Wing Commander, but when Lucasarts released X-Wing we instantly found out how a truly great space-fighting sim should feel. Then Star Wars: Tie Fighter was unleashed and everything else since and before paled into comparison, for this was the absolutely best flight-sim ever. It was tactical, fast, deep, exciting, looked brilliant, felt epic and even sported an excellent plot. Ah, yes, a true gem indeed and one of the most important PC classics.

Mind you, you can (and most probably should) grab the complete, boxed Star Wars: Tie Fighter over at magisterrex.  The game includes the original game box, all five 3.5" game disks, the Starfighter Pilot Manual, the reference card, and the troubleshooting guide.

Exile for the BBC Micro

If there is one game that absolutely defined the BBC Micro and showed off what it could actually pull off, it has to be Exile. Well, yes, and Elite too obviously, but Retro Treasures reader Joel did discover an excellent Exile auction, not an Elite one. See? I knew you would. Besides, deep, sci-fi arcade-adventures with such physics are still impressing gamers around the globe and this particular copy is in excellent condition.

It comes complete in its excellently preserved packaging with the manual, the novella and the key control guide that originally accompanied it. Seller ships worldwide. Oh, and we are indeed talking about the Acornsoft / Superior Software release for the BBC micro.

A lovely Apple II GS

I always believed that Apple's game and creativity focused 16-bit micro should have done better, but, well, it didn't. Seems like the Amiga and the Atari ST were too powerful for it, though this really shouldn't stop you from bidding on this lovely Apple II GS. It's got everything (besides one key) -including some software and what you see on the picture above- and comes with some extremely decent shipping. Then again, the seller ships only within the US.

eBay Rampage: Sierra On-Line

Started by husband and wife team Ken and Roberta Williams, Sierra On-Line (formerly On-Line Systems) went on to revolutionize the adventure genre and become a truly powerful graphic adventure developer and publisher. It produced countless classics such as the King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry and Gabriel Knight series before fading away into the bowels of the corporate world.
