Amstrad 464 Plus & Games

Combining a decent (but decidedly failed) 8-bit console with an improved CPC 464 under the same sleek-for-the-time hood, the Amstrad 464 Plus was a lovely, well-priced micro that along with the 6128 Plus helped prolong the life of Amstrad's classic line well into the '90s. This particular 464 Plus currently being auctioned on eBay is a Spanish working version of the machine that comes with the Burnin' Rubber / BASIC cartridge, as well as several other mostly boxed yet untested games including Match Day II, Xevious, Oh Mummy, and Beach-Head.

One Fine ZX Spectrum+

It may not look as sleek or unique as the original Speccy models, but the improved keyboard and the reset switch of the ZX Spectrum Plus more than make up for the micro's bulkier size. Other than that it's a lovely Sinclair 8-bit, does everything you'd expect it to, and you can grab one via this ZX Spectrum + eBay auction. Amstrad CPC 464

Amstrad CPC 464 Plus

The Plus range was a very interesting idea both on paper and in the flesh, but Amstrad's turbo-boosted 8-bit systems --despite the cartridge ports, 4096 colors palettes, sprite handling chips, and all sorts of other extras-- could never compete with the reigning Amigas and STs. Still, the Plus machines make lovely retro micros today, and you can grab a finely preserved, cleaned, tested, and fully working one via this Amstrad 464 Plus eBay auction.

The rare and lovely SAM Coupé

Released in 1989 SAM Coupé was the last 8-bit micro to really attempt to enter British homes, but despite its cool features and ZX Spectrum compatibility it was simply too late. The computer came with impressive specs including a standard 3.5" disk drive, a 6MHz processor, 256K of (expandable) RAM, stereo sound, a palette of 128 colours, and a ton of expansion options. It flopped and is now quite the collectible rarity.

To own one you could do much worse than bid on this rather impressive SAM Coupé bundle on eBay. Acorn Electron Bundle

Essentially a more affordable, less powerful, and way more compact BBC micro, the Acorn Electron was a lovely, decently priced, and quite successful 8-bit computer that got itself a ton of games and software. Boxed Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128

It was admittedly slightly under-cooked and a tad late, but we all loved the ZX Spectrum 128. It was a beautiful machine to look at, offered much more RAM than the 48k model, had a pretty decent sound chip, and was meant to be the final Sinclair computer. It is also pretty rare these days, and if you always wanted one you should definitely be looking at this lovely ZX Spectrum 128 eBay auction.

The micro seems to be in good condition (though something might be off with the keyboard), and comes in its original, well-preserved box. The power supply, required cables, and manuals are also included.

Fantastic Commodore 64 Bundle

Commodore's record selling 8-bit computer has aged gracefully, and remains an utterly wonderful platform to play, reminiscent, and create on. Also, this amazing Commodore 64 Bundle currently being auctioned on eBay is a great, and most probably cost effective way of revisiting this definitive '80s micro and its software.

The Commodore 64 and monitor on offer work fine, and are accompanied by a printer and an apparently problematic disk drive. Add to those three complete copies of War In Middle Earth, The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, tons of magazines, books, and 50 or so loose disks, and you have the beginnings of a great collection.

Atari 800 & Disk Drive

The powerful, expensive, and rather innovative Atari 800 was never a huge success in Europe, yet interestingly it is a UK seller who has posted this lovely Atari 800 eBay auction. The computer is fully working, seems to be in fine cosmetic condition, and comes complete in its box. What's more, the buyer will also be getting a fully working 1050 disk drive, the rare 32k memory card, cables, and three cartridges (BASIC, Galaxian, Star Raiders).

Apple's 1978 Apple II

One of the early Apple II computers by Apple has gone up for auction over at eBay. Constructed in 1978, and with an early serial number (13249), this particular micro is also in great cosmetic condition, and has been fully tested.

Jupiter Cantab's Jupiter Ace

One of the more obscure 8-bit British micros, the Jupiter Ace was released in 1982 for £89.95, and was built around the Z80 processor and the FORTH language. It never sold in large quantities, and despite retaining quite a few followers to this very day, the Jupiter Ace is rare.

You can still bid on one via this Jupiter Ace eBay auction though. The computer on offer is fully working, and seems to be in great cosmetic condition too. It is accompanied by the power supply unit, the RF lead, and a book on FORTH.

Enterprise 64: Boxed and Wonderful

The last of the British 8-bit micros, the Enterprise by Intelligent Systems, despite being a solid micro that also offered ZX Spectrum compatibility and a rather odd built-in joystick, was released far too late. It simply stood no chance when faced with the Amiga and Atari ST. Its impressive 672x512 high-res graphics and 256 colours could not save it from becoming a rare computer to collect.

It's quite rare to see one of those on eBay too, but here's a finely preserved, boxed Enterprise 64 up for auction. It has been tested and is fully working, and comes complete with 128k of RAM, PSU, leads, BASIC cartridge, polys, and manual.

Sinclair 128k ZX Spectrum +2 by Amstrad

Many of us hated the fact that Amstrad grabbed Sinclair for pennies, and essentially murdered its innovative soul, but we do have to admit that the ZX Spectrum +2 was a fine, affordable, and very handy micro. It was also unashamedly gaming focused, played nice with monitors and joysticks, sported all the extra 128k model goodies, had a decent keyboard, was properly reliable, and you can grab a fully working one via this ZX Spectrum +2 eBay auction.

An Amstrad CPC 6128 from Spain

The Amstrad CPC 6128 did sell really well in Spain; well enough to get its fully translated manual and software, and well enough for at least one Amstrad CPC 6128 to survive in great condition and be put up for auctioning on eBay. The 8-bit micro on offer is in great condition, comes complete with its Amstrad CTM 644 monitor, a manual in Spanish, CP/M and Logo disks, some games on disk, and a disk-box.

Amsptrad 6128 Plus

It was released late into the 16-bit period, and thus failed to really leave its mark, but the Amstrad CPC 6128 Plus was -- and still -- is a wonderfully impressive 8-bit micro. Its 4096-colours palette, hardware sprites and audiovisual tricks, 128kb of RAM, handy 3" drive, proper keyboard, cartridge port, and SCART video-out made it a machine that could almost compete with the likes of the Atari ST. On a good day, that is.
