Well, it seems this is the Retro Treasures period of beautifully designed systems, and that's why I'm pretty sure the eclectic readers of this humble blog will appreciate this Macinstoch SE eBay auction. This particular vintage, stylish Mac comes complete with keyboard, mouse, some manuals and quite a few games (including Civilization). Seller ships only within the US.

I always used to cry from the hilltops and gnash my teeth to little effect when I'd see schools tossing this old equipment. I'm so delighted that now, in the fullness of time, it has come to be appreciated as not only a cool looking collectible, but also an important historical artifact of our on-line society.
ReplyDeleteWith the acceleration of...well everything...brought about by this digital age, it stands to reason that things only 25 years old should bear a significance which in the past may have been attained only through a great span of years.
Plus this one comes with a lot of cool stuff :-)
Yes, it does take time dear Charlie, but people do eventually understand the importance (or lack thereof) of things.
ReplyDeleteHow could someone throw away a beauty like this? Easily, one of the best looking machines ever produced, and runs a lot of cool games too!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! And that, my friend, is why everyone needs one!
ReplyDeleteLove early Mac designs. Well, apart from the Apple Mac II - that thing was a brick. But the Classic SE - still looks cutting edge, all these years later. Like the Amiga 1000 we were talking about last week, and indeed the Atari ST. I've yet to see a PC from the same period that still looks as cool.
ReplyDeleteIt's always amused me though, that in 1997/98 when Apple introduced the iMac, it was touted by the PC magazines of the time as being 'revolutionary in it's design'. Er, no guys. The very first Mac was an all-in one. All that happened in the intervening years was faster speeds and transparent cases!
My feelings exactly. The Classic/SE Mac case hasn't aged a day and remains practical, beautiful and space-saving. And, yes, the Atari ST is also a beauty; actually I've only not grabbed one due to not finding the boxed one I've been looking for just yet.
