As far as Link's 8-bit, handheld adventures go, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX for the GameBoy Color is one of the finest and indeed rarest available. It also is a great Zelda action-RPG and its Japanes edition comes in a lovely box. Oh, and you can now grab a discounted Link's Awakening via Play Asia; remember that it can be played an GBCs of all regions.

I really need to play a version of this game! Very Disney-esque cover art too :|
ReplyDeleteIndeed; actually, that was one of the reasons I searched for the thing dear Simon.
ReplyDeleteI ran through the whole game via emulator about a year ago. It was still gorgeus like the original version (bought with my savings when I was 11, walking a couple miles on foot to reach the store, and wickedly sold with my first GB a couple years later), and the colors really added something. Plus, it has a new hidden dungeon accessible only on GBC (the game still runs on a b/w machine, and the dungeon is still there, but some weirdo tells Link to leave since he doesn't have the "power of colors". Link politely obeys).
ReplyDeleteAny GBC/GBA owner should definitely have one copy: too bad it's so hard to find (maybe because no one wants to sell its personal copy?), while there are always chances for the b/w version.
And that's why -were I a serious GBC collector- I'd be grabbing this. Mind you, just love the way the extra GBC content is locked on the vanilla GB. Guess, I'll give it an emulated try myself...
