Unreleased NES Super Turrican Prototype

Huge as Turrican and Super Turrican were in Europe, Super Turrican never managed to make it on the NES despite apparently being an essentially completed game. You can find -possibly even buy- all the proof you need over at this NES Super Turrican Prototype eBay auction. It's a NTSC version of Super Turrican on a 22 years old EPROM cartridge from SEIKA / Manfred Trenz for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The thing is quite obviously extremely rare and thus expensive, though it does admittedly look rather impressive. Seller ships worldwide.

Unreleased Chip's Challenge NES Prototype

We all know that Chip's Challenge is a brilliant puzzler that was made famous --mainly-- on the Atari Lynx; what Retro Collect just taught us though is that Chip's Challenge almost made it to the Nintendo Entertainment System too complete with new graphics and everything. And here, listed on eBay, is the unreleased Chip's Challenge NES Prototype to prove this. It's an EPROM card with  the game's demo code and it's as rare a NES rarity as it could get.

LucasArts Star Wars NES Prototype

A prototype dev cartridge of LucasArts' Star Wars game for the NES can be grabbed via this eBay auction. It is obviously exceedingly rare, highly collectible and the seller is shipping worldwide.

Atari 8-bit Prototype Collection

Four amazing even though untested Atari prototypes in good cosmetic condition can be bought via this Atari Prototypes eBay auction. If you can find the necessary money, you'll be the proud owner of the following prototypes: Atari 1450XLD (never released officially), Atari 1400XL (never released officially), Atari 1200 (evolved into the Atari 1200XL) and Atari 1090 XL Expansion System (never released officially). Tamiya's Unknown N64 Prototype

To be perfectly honest, if the seller of the incredibly obscure prototype cartridge you see above didn't sport a 100% positive feedback score (by more than 1000 people), I wouldn't consider posting about it. It is after all an auction for the prototype cartridge of Tamiya Racing 64; a game nobody seems to have heard of and thus an incredibly rare prototype of an unreleased Nintendo 64 game. Seller ships worldwide and this is bound to be expensive.

Apparently and according to the seller the game was developed by Intermetrics, a company supposedly close to Looking Glass Studios, whereas it does seem to sport quite a few similarities with Mini Racers. Hope the buyer gets to further investigate things...

Slime World Prototype (Atari Lynx)

Todd's Adventures in Slime World is a truly fantastic game. One of the very best to ever appear on the Atari Lynx. It is huge, smart, unique and visually stunning. Interestingly though, this post is not about the game itself, but its much rarer prototype which seems to have just surfaced on eBay. You can bid on it via this Slime World Prototype auction. The prototype, an employees-only demo apparently, is a cartridge that wasn't supposed to be sold and sports quite a few interesting differences when compared to the final product. The game, among other stuff, keeps dropping four players in each level, allows you to, uhm, try again and restore, has certain graphical differences and a totally different title screen. 

Sega Master System Prototype Testing Unit

Boris, one of the staunchest supporters of this blog, has gone and discovered something amazing indeed: a Master System Prototype Testing Unit. It quite obviously is an expensive Sega rarity that, besides playing Master System games, can test them for circuit issues. This dev console of sorts is in full working order and also comes with five game prototypes and an equally rare prototype of a SMS lightgun. Seller ships only within the US.

Elevator Action (NES) Prototype

This particular NES prototype pictured above is both intriguing and rather weird, as it seems to be some sort of "Mexican Version" that apparently lacks any Nintendo references on its board. Oh, and it's a prototype of Elevator Action. Bid on it here. Seller ships only within the US.

Wing Commander Prototype (SNES)

Both Wing Commander fans and SNES collectors should love this working (!) Wing Commander prototype that recently hit eBay and is so far sporting an incredibly modest asking price. The cart comes from old favourite Mindscape, whereas the seller kindly ships worldwide. 

Atari Jaguar 2 Midsummer Prototype

I have always been fond of Atari's Jaguar and even -for a while- believed a Jaguar CD would make an excellent addition to my collection. I never knew of the Atari Jaguar II (or is it III?) though; not until I run into this pretty amazing Atari Jaguar 2 Prototype Board auction. This, as you understand, is an incredibly rare thing and the seller happily ships worldwide.

As for the Jaguar 2 itself, the prototype named Midsummer, well, as you must have noticed, it never reached a finished state and obviously never even came close to being released. It would apparently have been a powerful beast indeed, possibly coming close to the Dreamcast in terms of raw processing power. You can find out more about it here and here.

Atari Video System X (Prototype)

The Atari Video System X was the prototype console that almost got itself called PAM, but eventually evolved to become the not spectacularly succesful Atari 5200. You can find out more about it here and here, though I can assure this is an incredibly rare console. And a good looking one too. Oh, and you rich people can now own an Atari Video System X prototype via this (US only) VSX eBay auction. The unit is in pristine condition.

Atari 2700 RC Stella Prototype Console

This one will be expensive, but so very unique you simply have to have a look. It is after all an auction for the truly Atari 2700 RC Stella prototype, the forgotten and very Atari 2600 variant with the wireless joysticks and the radical redesign. Oh, and seller does indeed ship worldwide.

The Atari 7800 'Signature Edition' Prototype

Rumor has it less than 20 of these were ever made, eBay history shows they go for ridiculous amounts of money and I'm sure I've seen a white one. Anyway.
