Out of this World (Genesis)

Out of this World (a.k.a. Another World outside the US) by French maestro Eric Chahi is a visually stunning, exploration heavy, and rather brilliant 16-bit arcade-adventure, that -collector or not- you simply have to play. Grabbing this boxed Out of this World copy for the Sega Genesis might be the way to go, provided you are a US resident and care for eBay auctions that is. Cart, box and manual seem to be in perfect condition.

  1. I totally agree, I got a copy of the 15th anniversary edition a couple years ago and still was charming, funny and somewhat moving. Definitely a game to play, no excuses.

  2. Actually I've still to grab the anniversary edition, despite loving the demo. Hmmm... will fix this eventually.

  3. Loved Another World back when I had a Mega Drive. The spiritual sequel Flashback was awesome. A fabulous blend of platforming, action and puzzles. The Amiga versions of both were better - there's some comparison videos on YouTube. Dunno what when wrong with the third game though.

  4. The third game? Hmmm....

Oh, and everything on the Amiga is -always- better than anything else ;)

  5. I say third game - actually that's a misnomer because Another World and Flashback are separate properties that get lumped together because they both used rotoscoping and were published by Delphine.

Anyway - the true sequel to Another World was Heart of the Alien, I think and only seems to have been a Sega CD release. The sequel to Flashback was Fade to Black, which was a 3rd person thing on DOS & PSOne. Not as good as the original though.

  6. I see. Does make -partly- sense to lump Another World with Flashback, but then, as you've noted, you'd also have to add the very mediocre Fade to Black to the group. As for Heart of the Alien I haven't unfortunately played it yet. Does sound like a great idea, mind.
