Boxed and working NEC PC-FX

Released in 1994 exclusively in Japan, the NEC PC-FX was a lovely CD-based console that looked like a computer and did many thing well, but failed to do 3D graphics properly. It is no surprise then that it never set the world on fire and got less than 100 games published for it. Then again if sleek 2D graphics, true colour, 2D effects and FMV video are your thing, you'll love it.

Boxed NEC PC-FX

NEC's PC-FX is a 32-bit, CD-based console that was released exclusively in Japan back in 1994. Despite being a 2D powerhouse, it was quite expensive and lacked out-of-the-box 3D acceleration; it thusly never really sold that well. The machine only got 62 games released for it and, to this day, remains the only console to look like a (beautiful) PC. NEC PC-FX

The 1998 NEC PC-FX was the catastrophically delayed successor to the PC Engine, that was supposed to be a 3D powerhouse (as a prototype), but ended up being one of the most powerful 2D consoles ever instead. It was a console that was geared towards FMV games and Japanese adventures, what with its built-in CD and all, and a console that never really stood a chance. It did still manage to get a few dozen games released for it though (some of them good too) and, well, it's definitely worth owning, if not for anything else, for its unique looks.
