The Atari Falcon, the last computer ever produced by Atari, was a powerful yet sadly unsuccessful and OS-crippled beast. Inside the ageing Atari ST case the Falcon sported a powerful 68030 processor, a DSP processor and some vastly upgraded graphic chips. Back in 1992 that was a lot of power, even when taking into account the poor sound capabilities of the thing... Apparently though it was already too late for Atari. You can find out more about the Falcon here and here.
To actually own one you could do worse than checking this Atari Falcon 030 auction out. It's a fully working computer in great cosmetic condition, that comes with 4MBs of RAM and the pretty rare Soundlifter expansion. Seller ships worldwide.
I'd love a Falcon, but there is no way I coul justify the amount of cash I'd have to drop to get one. This is a nice example, but I prefer the original, darker keyboard.
ReplyDeleteHmm, you might be right you know. The darker keyboard was slightly more, uhm, different really. Mind you, I'd also care for a Falcon, though I wouldn't place it as a top priority.
DeleteAs far as I know the lighter keyboard was an rare option for dark, gloomy environments for better contrast. (f.e. stage/studio) Its pretty rare and you´ll find other Falcons with similar keyboards on the net.
DeleteGloriously exotic!
ReplyDeleteIndeed :)

Can't quite see the relevance, but it does look nice...
DeleteI have a fully functional atari falcon with an amp like box that says mc systems not sure what its for really. My uncle used the thing for studio recording and then gave it to me. haven't really had much use for it, not really sure how or where to sell it. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! eBay is a pretty safe bet and maybe you could contact magisterrex.com
