Is it just me or do these formerly very rare and still rather expensive failed 8-bit consoles by Amstrad keep appearing on eBay? Does anyone actually care for such observations? No? Good. Here's an auction for another Amstrad GX4000 then. One that's essentially new in its original box and thus comes complete with the all the joypads, manuals and cables you could ask for. Also a Burnin' Rubber cartridge to show to people just how clever the evolved CPC+ technology was.

Amstrad GX 4000 - New

The Amstrad GX4000 must have sounded really good on paper, but the console version of the CPC Plus, despite the trusted 8-bit technology and the added custom chips, flopped. And it flopped badly enough to essentially kill off any other Amstrad attempt at home computing and gaming. Still, I always liked this console and thought it came with a properly impressive pack-in game. Besides, it looks like a spaceship.

Amstrad GX4000 Complete

I always thought that Amstrad's GX4000 console looked a bit like a space-ship, you know. A white, 1990 space-ship to be exact and one that houses the interestingly upgraded CPC+ innards and can do some pretty lovely things with its 8-bit hardware. Not that it got the games or support it deserved, but it remains a fun curio to own and collect for.

This particular Amstrad GX4000 currently being auctioned off at eBay, comes complete in its original box with two controllers, the required cables, polys, manual and Burnin' Rubber cartridge. Copies of Batman and World of Sports are also included.

The complete Amstrad GX4000 Console

Essentially a CPC with a few extra chips, a cartridge slot, a SCART port and some preposterously priced games, Amstrad's GX4000 console was a proper disaster. A highly collectible disaster admittedly and an interesting, distinctly European 8-bit console, you could grab via this pretty amazing GX4000 auction on eBay.

Amstrad GX4000 console & games

Amstrad's GX4000 console was nothing more than an advanced 8-bit CPC 6128 Plus without keyboard or disk drive, but with decent AV-out capabilities and a pretty compact design. Unfortunately, the console sort of flopped (click for an almost complete AMSTRAD feature) and is now quite a rarity, usually selling for a bit more than 45£.

Happily, UK residents can get themselves a far better deal by having a look at this bargain-ish ebay.co.uk auction. It's an Amstrad GX 4000 complete with the pack-in Burnin' Rubber racing game, the excellent Pang cartridge and two controllers.
