Atari 2600 Jr + 51 Games

In 1986, a new version of the Atari 2600 was released, unofficially referred to as the 2600 Jr. With its introduction came a resurgence in software development both from Atari and from third parties. Indeed so popular is the system that 21 years on, homebrew games for the system are still being made and sold by hobbyists with several new titles available each year. How could you overlook a massive 128 bytes of Ram.

The First Zork Game up for auction

One of the first interactive fiction computer games and an early descendant of Colossal Cave Adventure. Written in 1977–1979, "Zork" was originally MIT hacker jargon for an unfinished program. The implementors named the completed game Dungeon, but by that time the name Zork had already stuck. Three of the original Zork programmers joined with others to found Infocom in 1979.

Zork distinguished itself in its genre as an especially rich game in terms of both the quality of the storytelling and the sophistication of its text parser, which understood full sentences, not just single verbs or nouns.

And now the miraculous has happened, yes you guessed theres a near mint copy on ebay

Amstrad GX4000

Amstrad GX4000, essentially an Amstrad CPC 6128 plus without a keyboard and disk drive, was a commercial flop with only a handful of original games released for it, but also a highly sought after 8-bit game console. So, after reading a bit on Amstrad's history, you'll be happy to know that a mint condition Amstrad GX4000 complete with two controllers and Burning Rubber cartridge has just hit ebay.co.uk. Surprisingly it's one of the few consoles that ship worldwide and one of the fewer Amstrad GX4000 under 30£ (for now, at least).

The 32-bit Amiga 1200 and lots of retro games

If it weren't for the hideous conspiracy of baked bean sellers the 32-bit home computing beast that was the Amiga 1200 would have been as huge a success as her older Amiga 500 sister. The Amiga 1200 had a brand new powerful graphics chip, a 32-bit 68020 processor, a better OS and a smart price tag, but apparently never sold good enough to save Commodore. Despite the brilliant new games and being backward compatible in a way the PS3 will never be.

Now, provided you live in the UK, you can get a boxed Amiga 1200 with 11 fantastic boxed games including: Frontier Elite II, Power Monger, Mortal Kombat and Theme Park. Have a look at this (probable) bargain:

The rest of Europe could have a look at a few other and quite fine boxed games collection for the Amiga. Thankfully they ship to the UK too.

Modern console
Fuji Television Divers 2000 Series CX-1 - an impressive title, and an even more impressive piece of Sega hardware. This very special version of the Dreamcast came with everything a serious user could ever want. A remote (for the tv-function), a controller, keyboard, Vibration Pack, internet and teleconference software, a headset and an instruction video. And even though the built-in screen is fairly small, it is of exceptional quality. The unit is designed to be used every day, and even the antenna doubles as a place to hang the headset when it is not in use. Down the sides are two rows of LEDs, that light up when the unit is in use - a feature that definitely does not make the overall appeal any less.Games are loaded from the top, just like your regular Dreamcast. Unfortunately neither a slot or tray loading drive made it to production, even-though it would have went well with the "Sonic head/iMac" look. The DIVERS 2000 was released in the midst of the short Dreamcast life-span, and is considered as Sega's last contribution to Dreamcast collectors the world over.

Atari Jaguar CD Combo and 6 Games

The Atari Jaguar, released in November 1993, eventually wound up as a commercial failure and prompted Atari to leave the hardware business. After the Atari Corporation properties were bought out by Hasbro Interactive in the late 1990s, Hasbro released the encryption coding to the Jaguar, finally opening the doors for homebrew development.

Several game companies, including Telegames, ScatoLOGIC, and Songbird Productions, have not only released previously unfinished materials from the Jaguar's past, but also several brand new titles to satisfy the system's cult following.

Auction item includes games Blue Lightning, Hover Strike, Dragon's Lair, Myst, Vid Grid and Primal Rage. Seller in US, ships worlwide.

Dark Tower Board Game

Dark Tower is a 1981 electronic board game by Milton Bradley Company, for one to four players. The object of the game is to amass an army, collect the three keys to the Tower, and defeat the evil within.

Working copies of Dark Tower are increasingly hard to find. The game went out of print shortly after release due to a lawsuit. The suit was brought by two men who claimed to have presented the original concept for "Dark Tower" to Milton Bradley in the late Seventies. Thereafter, they claimed, MB independently developed the game based on their proposal. As part of the resolution of the lawsuit, Milton Bradley pulled the game off the market.

N64 GoldenEye 007

As promised, here's a Retro Treasures post about GoldenEye 007, the best FPS for the Nintendo 64 and the first console shooter that actually worked, since it wisely introduced the analog stick to the mechanics. The game, still highly playable and definitely not a rarity, is widely available and shouldn't be difficult to track down. The following ebay auction is the cheapest I could find and one of the few that are targeting a worldwide audience.

Cheetahmen II rarity for NES

Reputed by many to be nearly unplayable, Cheetahmen II was a video game produced by Active Enterprises in 1992, but strangely the game was never sold commercially. All 1,500 known copies of the game were located in a warehouse in 1997. All were reused Action 52 cartridges with some having a small gold sticker reading "Cheetamen II." The cartridge as you would imagine, is very hard to come by, though ROM images of the game exist on the Internet.

Nintendo Virtual Boy & 4 games

The Nintendo Virtual Boy, a console designed by legendary Gunpei Yokoi, was Nintendo's first and apparently only attempt at a Virtual Reality console, that completely and utterly flopped. The console, released in 1995 in Japan and the US, didn't even make it to Europe, despite being a pretty quirky and interesting little gadget.

Here's what Nintendo had to say on its VR gaming machine:

"The Virtual Boy, our RISC-based, 32-bit system, produces a 3-D experience not possible on conventional television or LCD screens. The system has two high-resolution, mirror-scanning LED (light emitting diode) displays. Its unique design eliminates all external stimuli, totally immersing players into their own private universe with high-resolution red images against a deep black background. The 3-D experience is enhanced through stereo sound and a new specially-designed, double-grip controller that accommodates multidirectional spatial movement. Virtual Boy is a stand-alone, table-top unit that doesn't connect to a television screen. It is powered by six AA batteries."
Good news is Europeans can now get their hands on a Virtual Boy and 4 games (Wario Land, Mario Tennis, Galactic Pinball and Red Alarm) for relatively cheap. Provided its price stays below 50£, as usually VBs sell for over 70£.

Shadowrun SNES sighted

If you are into cyberpunk console RPGs then you just can't do much better than Shadowrun SNES (MobyGames entry). Shadowrun, set in a brilliant Neuromancer inspired gameworld, seamlessly combines tabletop RPG rules with bursts of arcade action and crisp 16-bit visuals to create one of the best non-Japanese CRPGs ever to appear on a Nintendo console. Happily Amazon.com has a stock of these beauties. Not very happily they only ship them within the US.

Snatcher for the Sega Mega CD, a game designed by industry legend Hideo Kojima, was the absolutely best thing to ever appear on Sega's not particularly successful console add-on. Definitely a weird and obscure lot, but also quite a huge bargain (provided it sells for less than 50-60£), this fantastic retro gaming collection was discovered in the bowels of ebay.co.uk and includes: an Atari Lynx with the California Games cartridge, a Sega Megadrive with two controllers and Fifa Soccer 96, a Sega Master System with an extra joystick and 7 games, a NES with Super Mario Bros. and Kick Off, a SNES with the Return of the Jedi game, 24 Amstrad CPC games, 2 silly digital pets, Humphrey for C64 and a Sharleen D5614 console!

Impressive, ain't it? Mind you, the seller ships only to the UK and I still haven't managed to learn anything about this Sharleen console.

Super Mario Bros 3 for Famicom

Released 1988, it's up to you to help Mario and Luigi get back some stolen magic wands, defeat the heinous Bowser, and save the Princess all before the day is done.

Easily the best or with a push the second best Mario Games of all time. Of course you'll need your own NES Famicom, but why let a triviality stop your from rescuing the Princess.

The Neo Geo CD collection

Usually selling for more than 100£ (roughly 180$), the Neo Geo CD is an impressively powerful console designed by SNK to bring arcade quality gaming to the average bourgeois living-room. A Neo Geo CD ebay auction currently going for less than 3£ seems like the proletariat's way to said gaming wonder. Thankfully, the seller ships worldwide.

The system comes with 15 games including: Metal Slug, Samurai Spirits, King of Fighters, NAM 1975, Burning Fight, Soccer Brawl and Real Bout 3.

ColecoVision with 6 games

Vid from Siouxmoux
The ColecoVision is a second generation home video game console, released in August 1982. The ColecoVision offered arcade-quality graphics and gaming style, the ability to play other home consoles' video games (notably the Atari 2600), and the means to expand the system's hardware. All told, approximately 170 titles were released in the form of plug-in cartridges between 1982 and 1985. And now the Console and a selection of 6 games have come under the hammer on ebay, unfortunately the Seller ships to the US only
