Apple's attempt at an affordable 16-bit micro to go head to head with the Amiga and Atari ST may not have been the success the company originally envisioned, but the it did end up giving us the lovely, versatile and rather beautiful Apple IIgs. The complete Apple IIgs

The final evolution of the Apple II, the Apple IIgs, didn't really manage to threaten the dominance of the Amiga and Atari ST but it did end up being an elegant, powerful and well designed computer with a pretty impressive software library. Though only 50,000 Woz Limited Edition Apple IIGSs were originally manufactured, due to circumstances, this particular version of the Apple II successor is not really rare. I always believed that Apple's game and creativity focused 16-bit micro should have done better, but, well, it didn't. Seems like the Amiga and the Atari ST were too powerful for it, though this really shouldn't stop you from bidding on this lovely Apple II GS. The wise curator of the excellent Byte Cellar has discovered something that will get Apple retroheads most excited: a 18.75Mhz Transwarp GS for the Apple IIGS. The lovely set of chips Applied Engineering came up with to boost the performance of the GS and actually make it more powerful than the fastest Amiga. Quite an impressive and relatively rare piece of kit then... Seller ships worldwide, and I wouldn't expect the thing to be too cheap.

Six Apple II Games

Actually, make that five sealed, boxed Apple II games and one sealed, boxed Apple II GS graphics utility all available via one handy auction. This fantastic little machine sported a full GUI, ample RAM, rich audio-visual capabilities, Apple II compatibility, true multitasking, quite a few expansion options and a sleek design. Shockingly it didn't fare too well versus the behemoths that were the Amiga and Atari ST. Must have been the price methinks. Anyway.
