We've discussed this before, I know, but surely everyone needs to be reminded of the simple fact that the Atari Lynx is a brilliant and rather groundbreaking handheld. It could have been even better of course -had Atari not fiddled too much with the original design- but, frankly, the Lynx II is arguably as good as it gets. You could find out by actually grabbing this particular Lynx II you know. It comes in its unopened box and is accompanied by five of the best games ever released for the console, namely Chip's Challenge, Slime World, Rygar, Warbirds and that lovely Dracula point-and-clicker. Seller ships worldwide.
The Lynx was a great, sorely underrated handheld in it's day, with powerful hardware and some choice titles. Sadly it was almost inevitably doomed to 3rd place after the Game Gear and the unstoppable might of the Nintendo Gameboy, with it's obscenely long battery life and the ubiquitous 'Tetris'.
ReplyDeleteYou could always run an emulator on a GP32x or a jailbroken DS or PSP, but unlike with a real Lynx, you'd be hard pressed to use those as a blunt weapon during a Zombie invasion.
My main gripe is that Wiz emulation of the Lynx is erratic at best, meaning I still get to play on the proper console using the AC/DC adapter. Oh, and I'm afraid you are right. The Lynx never really had a fighting chance, but it will easily split an undead skull. Atari was like that back in the days of the Tramiels...
ReplyDeleteSlime World is a masterpiece, and Chip's Challenge ain't bad.
ReplyDeleteSlime World is indeed a masterpiece dear John, but I really wouldn't hesitate calling Chip's Challenge one too. The level design is impeccable.
