The beautiful vector-based Vectrex is a truly unique retro console, that comes complete with it's built-in, ultra-crisp vector monitor and a proper analog controller, and even sports more than a few excellent games. It may have been a failure due to mankind's devastating lack of taste, but you can happily still grab a boxed Vectrex via eBay. It comes complete with its manual, controller, built-in game with instructions & overlay, an insert and an accessories booklet. Seller ships worldwide.
I'm always moved when I see a Vectrex, mainly because it's one of the few things you just have to see to understand how it works and, most important, how it feels.
ReplyDelete*cough cough*I was actually planning to *cough cough* take a pic of mine and *cough* base my next post on it *cough cough*
Bless you, dear. Have a glass of water now. Better? Good.
ReplyDeleteNow, do grab a pic and do a post on your Vectrex please.
Sure thing, I'll do it as soon as I can (namely tomorrow, since tonight I have an important match). Oh, and I assume this must come from CGE, since my MB Vec looks different.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right. Oh, and enjoy the match!
ReplyDeleteI only had 2 games on with mine, asteroids and defender. Me and my aunt would take turns seeing how far we could get in asteroids. I miss that machine, I don't even know where mine is.
ReplyDeleteYou should really search for it Blake. Also, interrogate auntie. The Vectrex is too brilliant a machine to ignore my friend.
ReplyDeleteSo delighted to see this Vectrex post first thing in the morning - thank you!
ReplyDeleteI picked mine up at one of the very first PhillyClassic shows back in 2001 - a classic gaming event in Philadelphia, PA (USA). I was lucky enough to find an example with a box, and the fabled multi-cart and made the good decision to add it to the collection. The Vectrex is a magical and beautiful machine, and really one of my fondest things.
Here's an old review I wrote of that very show, that might be historically interesting for someone:

and at the risk of posting too many links, my love note to Vectrex Frogger really needs to see the light of day, some 10 years later:

I picked up a Vectrex from a friend for £50 last week, with overlays, manual, two original-release games (Bezerk and Scramble) and a recent homebrew cart with amazing versions of Defender and Space Invaders. Bargain.
ReplyDeleteThe vector screen is genuinely magical to witness. Glorious machine - I'm completely in love with it.
@ Charlie: Thanks for the fantastic links! As always, your retro stuff is brilliant my friend. God I have to grab a Vectrex...
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: You are both right to be in love with and incredibly lucky. Cheers!
Wow - so many people on here that have one of these beauties. I don't but have wanted one for quite some time. Still holding out hopes to accidentally stumble onto one for a little cheaper someday. Probably not though. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Vectrex. I have two of em! Nothing wrong with having a back-up. :)
ReplyDelete@ MadPlanet: Haven't gotten one either, but truth be said -price aside- this one is a pretty handy and compact piece of hardware.
ReplyDelete@ Ion Myke: Two? You lucky, lucky, person!
The first one I paid the standard (unboxed) price, and the second one was too good of a deal to pass up.
ReplyDeleteRiiiiight... :) It's totally understandable mind. I do after all own three Lynx handhelds.
ReplyDeleteAnd still no model 1 Lynx? I'm telling you man, it's the Cadillac of handhelds. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, I know, I know, the shame. Oh, the shame.
