The Sierra Chest Games Sale

The Sierra Chest is a wonderful site that focuses on collecting and preserving every game Sierra ever published and developed, while providing news, videos and features that retro gamers worldwide have appreciated for quite some time now. Here is an older interview with the site's curator. Now, on to the bad news. The Sierra Chest (well, the man responsible for it) has been the victim of both fraud and bad luck and has to sell parts of the Chest's amazing collection, in order to keep things afloat.

You'll find vintage copies of Gabriel Knight, Leisure Suit Larry, Eco Quest, King's Quest, Police Quest and many more. Commodore 64 GS

The Commodore 64 GS, also known as the Commodore 64 Game System, was released in Europe back in 1990 and was Commodore's attempt at entering the still lucrative 8-bit console market. It was essentially a consolized Commodore 64 computer in a new ugly box that lacked a keyboard and could only play cartridge games. Obviously it flopped and is now considered quite a collectible.

You can bid on a fully working C64GS via this Commodore 64 GS eBay auction. It comes complete with three joysticks, the pack-in cartridge sporting four games (Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O'Fun, International Soccer, Flimbo's Quest and Klax) and a boxed copy of Jupiter Lander. Seller ships worldwide.

The VideoBrain Family Computer

The VideoBrain Family Computer is an obscure, cartridge-based home computer that apparently failed to set the world on fire. It was released in 1977 and was a rather powerful machine for the time, what with its colour graphics, built-in software, F8 CPU and sound-generator. Green Glory: Amstrad CPC 464

Beautiful, in the tackiest 80s way, innit? Beautiful and sporting a nostalgia emitting green monitor this Amstrad CPC 464 seems like a great buy. It does after all come with its original manual, the necessary cables,3 joysticks and 39 games, among which you'll find such 8-bit classics as Batman, Target; Renegade, BMX Simulator and Oh Mummy. Timex Sinclair 1000

The Timex Sinclair 1000 is the US version of the Sinclair ZX81 and that is reason enough for this Timex Sinclair 1000 to only ship within the US. Or perhaps not. Custer's Revenge (Atari 2600)

MadPlanet's Gameroom, the excellent retro gaming focused blog, has posted a fresh and lovely look at Atari 2600 atrocity Custer's Revenge. Read it to find out more about this mindlessly offending and horribly designed adult (ahem) game by Mystique. Oh, and if you are so inclined, do bid on this boxed, sealed copy of Custer's Revenge via eBay (also discovered by dear MadPlanet). Seller ships only to US addresses. 

Atari Jaguar 2 Midsummer Prototype

I have always been fond of Atari's Jaguar and even -for a while- believed a Jaguar CD would make an excellent addition to my collection. I never knew of the Atari Jaguar II (or is it III?) though; not until I run into this pretty amazing Atari Jaguar 2 Prototype Board auction. This, as you understand, is an incredibly rare thing and the seller happily ships worldwide.

As for the Jaguar 2 itself, the prototype named Midsummer, well, as you must have noticed, it never reached a finished state and obviously never even came close to being released. It would apparently have been a powerful beast indeed, possibly coming close to the Dreamcast in terms of raw processing power. You can find out more about it here and here.

M.U.L.E. (Commodore 64)

MULE, the definitive and quite brilliant multiplayer game released back in 1983, remains a surprisingly fun little offering and, admittedly, a must-own classic. You can bid on it via this MULE (C64) auction. Seller ships only within the US. Oh, and as this is quite the popular game, expect it be on the expensive side of things. On a happier note you can also enjoy its Atari 8-bit version online (for free).

Boxed 48k ZX Spectrum

It's been quite some time since the last ZX Spectrum that could actually be shipped worldwide appeared on Retro Treasures, and I do believe this boxed Spectrum auction should make up for this most heinous of crimes. The auctioned computer and its (complete) box seem excellently preserved and are accompanied by a few books and -above all- the complete version of The Hobbit, thus the boxed game, a playing guide and Tolkien's book. SEGA Genesis Nomad

You'd think that following the unspectacular performance of the Game Gear,  Sega would have learned that huge, expensive, battery hungry handhelds based on pre-existing consoles don't that well. Apparently Sega didn't. They went on and released an even huger -though admittedly beautiful- console, that was big enough to play proper Genesis cartridges and powerfull enough to drain its batteries in a couple or so hours: the SEGA Nomad. It was of course a flop, but also a lovely little thing for us retro gamers and collectors.

A Famicom Disk System

The Famicom Disk System, also known as the Family Computer Disk System, a Nintendo Famicom peripheral released exclusively for the Japanese market in 1986, is a cunning way to add a 3" disk drive to your console and get to play a variety of mostly rare and usually excellent games. You can grab a modestly, almost bargain, priced (unboxed and without a manual though) Famicom Disk System vis this Buy It Now eBay listing. Aldynes: The Mission Code for Rage Crisis

Supergrafx games aren't the most common of retro games doing the rounds, and that's why your beloved Retro Treasures blog decided to point you to the single copy of Aldynes: The Mission Code for Rage Crisis still available at Play Asia. And, yes, it is a horizontal scrolling shoot-'em-up indeed, albeit one only released in Japan.

Shoot-'em-up Construction Kit

Sensible Software was a truly great development house that has given us, beyond such timeless gems as  Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder, the rather excellent Shoot-'em-up Construction Kit. The first authoring tool that let gamers create impressive shmups without knowing how to code. It was of course a hit, that still has its very own vibrant community. Sega SG-1000: The first edition

Ah, a colourful rarity. How delightful! Especially considering just how beautiful this box of the 1983-released SG-1000 still looks. A SG-1000 in such a box does cost a bit more than your average SG-1000 (which isn't that cheap to boot), but it is indeed the rarest version of the boxed console available. The console itself, also known as the Sega Game 1000, is the Master System's granddaddy , and uses a Z80 CPU at 3.57 Mhz, a TMS9929A video chip and a a SN76489A sound chip.

You'll be bidding on a colourfully boxed, first edition SG-1000 complete with manual, RF switch box (but no cable), manual and poster. Rob The Robot and more...

This Nintendo NES auction will not be the cheapest console bundle you'll ever bid on, but chances are it might end up being decently priced after all. We'll see... For now, let me just inform you that said bundle includes a boxed NES Deluxe Set (complete with the NES console itself, a Zapper, Rob the Robot and a ton of other stuff) in excellent condition, and a selection of great NES games. Amiga 1200 Desktop Dynamite

The insanely popular Amiga Desktop Dynamite bundle was a beautiful box of 32-bit creative and gaming joy. It was after all filled with a selection of goodies, that included the Amiga 1200 computer, Wordworth 2.0, the AGA version of Deluxe Paint 4, Print Manager, Workbench, manuals, fonts and two games (Oscar, Dennis). As for the A1200 itself, well, it really was a fantastic 32-bit computer that had some amazing games published for it, while retaining its close to 100% compatibility with the Amiga 500.

Happily, you can own said bundle (provided you live in the UK) via this A1200 Desktop Dynamite auction. Amstrad CPC retro gamers rejoice! This amazing bundle of over 100 CPC 464/6128 games is the sweetest of bargains. It includes, among tons of boxed offerings, such gems as Batman, Kick Off 2, War in Middle Earth, Sim City and Bloodwych. Seller ships only within the UK.

Magnavox Odyssey 2 & games

The Magnavox Odyssey 2, also known as the Philips Videopac G7000, and a console released back in 1978 is a rather unique and oddly popular beast. You can find out more about it here and here. To emulate it try this link. Better though grab the original machine and experience its odd built-in keyboard and impressively packaged games. It usually isn't that expensive either.

I've been meaning to blog about online retro store Magisterrex for quite sometime now, but, well, I didn't and I most probably wont. So, let me just point you to its brilliantly priced (they are having some sort of sale it seems) boxed copy of the ur-RTS: The Ancient Art of War. It's the PC version mind.

Yes, amazingly, this is the second Atari ST post in a row, but you'll have to excuse me, as STOS: The Game Creator was a ground-breaking piece of software. Heroes of the Lance (Atari ST)

What you see above is the boxed Atari ST version of a truly forgotten retro CRPG: Heroes of the Lance. It might not be the best 16-bit Dungeons & Dragons game ever, but I always thought its uniqueness more than made up for its minor gameplay faults. Oh, and the thing is also based on the surprisingly good Dragonlance novel of the same name. Get it for a ridiculously cheap price via this Heroes of the Lance auction. Seller ships worldwide.

Amazon's ZX Spectrums

It really is silly forgetting just how many bits of retro gaming happiness can be found over at Amazon. One can for example grab a fully working ZX Spectrum +2 for a very reasonable £30.00. Thought I'd let you know. Oh, and in case you are wondering the Amstrad manufactured +2 is an ideal choice for gamers, what with its built-in tape recorder and monitor connectability.

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
