The impressive and rather stunning big box of the Shadow of the Beast for the Amiga is quite a rare site these days. Not ridiculously rare mind, but this Amazon Beast listing was all I managed to find after a week searching eBay and a few other sites. It comes complete with that classic free T-shirt too.
Beast it's something anyone should play at least once to see how Amiga rocked back in 90's... and, if you are in to difficult games, this one is an hard challenge (though if you have good memory it's just a matter of time). One of the best-looking game I ever played.
ReplyDeleteAnd by far the game with the most beautiful box cover ever. Still remember how impressed I was when I first saw those countless levels of parallax scrolling. The absolute Amiga killer-app it was. Ah the days, the days.
ReplyDeleteI didn't play the game when it actually came out so I didn't get anywhere near the full impact, but I did play it on an emulator a couple of years back - FM Towns version I think. I hear that the original Amiga version is the best though. I agree the box art was striking - instantly recognizable for me even though it was 2 years ago for a game I didn't actually own and only played once and saw the box art online.
ReplyDeleteWell dear MadPlanet you should really play -at least- the emulated Amiga version. It's a truly unique though more difficult than average game. I myself might just try and see what the FM Towns version was all about.
ReplyDeleteSomeone on youtube played throug all versions, and even made a comparison video where every difference between version is clearly visible. I can't link it right now but it's easy to find. Oh, and I'll write about the Master System version one day or another.
ReplyDeleteOff to search YouTube! Oh, and I'll patiently wait for your write-up Mik.
ReplyDeleteYeah I checked out that exact video on YouTube back when I tried the game. I remember being impressed by a) how many different ports there were for this game and b) how much better the Amiga version looked than pretty much all the others.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's not forget the best handheld port was on the Atari Lynx. Obviously.
