It's funny how sought-after huge commercial flops become and Commodore's C64 GS console is a prime example of such a retro gaming rarity. I've been obsessively searching for it for the last three months and it was only today I happened upon this obviously rare C64 GS ebay auction. The seller only ships to Europe.
The console usually sells for more than 35£ or 50 euros. This particular one you'll be bidding for comes with a 4-in-1 games cartridge, necessary leads, power supply and in its original box. It does lack a joystick though, but them are just so easy to find (any C64 one will do).
The C64 GS, actually a C64 with a cartridge port and no keyboard in a plastic box, was Commodore's spectacularly failed attempt to enter the 8-bit console market. It hit the UK in 1990 and flopped hard enough to end up being used as spare parts for Commodore's way more successful home-micros. Quite a few games -mostly compilations- were released for it. Anyway, even Zzap!64 reviewed the thing.

ReplyDeleteEdible, is it? Sanitary?
ReplyDelete..well I must admit I've never tried eagle eye before, it should be safe though, it's fresh....

Ahhh, poor thing. Brakes my heart. Sould have thought a blind eagle would make a sad beast. Better it all of it...
ReplyDeleteMmm.. eye tastes fine..
50 euro? You got to be kidding. These regularly go for six times that on Ebay.
ReplyDeleteHappily not the ones I've seen. The most expensive one I think went for 90 euros. Then again, you might just be right.
ReplyDeleteCould be a bit of shill bidding either ...
ReplyDeleteActualy, any C64 joystick won't do.. The GS joystick has two independent buttons, each with their own function, developed specificly for the system. The original C64, and third party joysticks may have two buttons, buttons, but they have the same function. Not even a Sega controller will do. As a result, some of the games for this system, won't work propperly, without the correct Joystick..
